Nature

Ždánický les (2km) - Highlands that form a designated natural park, filled with tourist paths. On bike or on foot, explore the secrets of deep forests and other natural beauties.

Biotop Bohuslavice (2,5km) - Nature bathing biotope with a 20x25m bathing water area, a children's paddling pool and a small lagoon.

Swimming pool Kyjov (5,5km) - Newly opened outdoor part of the swimming pool "Aqua in park" Kyjov. It offers three modern pools including a pleasant paddling pool for small children. The inner part with wellness center will open in summer 2023.

 

Chřiby (12km) - The natural beauty of the Buchlov Mountains. Follow various marked paths and get to know Cimburk Castle, Hradisko sv. Klement and Buchlov Castle.

Baťa canal (30km) - A unique water passage in South Moravia (53 km). You can cruise the canal on a houseboat, or combine sailing with hiking. Or cycle in one direction and then take the boat back.

 

Moravian Tuscany

Long strips of brown and green fields stretching to the horizon. Occasionally you will see a tree there, a chapel or a draw.

Get to know the picturesque landscape of southern Moravia, which rightly resembles Italian Tuscany.

Culture

Chateau Milotice (12km) - The Pearl of Moravian Baroque chateaux. Three different guided tours are offered. There are also special tours in historical costumes, the chateau gardens, the stables and the café.

Castle Buchlov (33km) - A royal castle from the 13th century and a national cultural monument. It offers select tours (viewing the tower, renaissance and gothic spaces, natural history collections, etc.).

Chateau Buchlovice (33km) – One of the best examples of Moravian Baroque architecture of the 17/18th century. There are guided tours, a fuchsia exhibition and the chateau park.

Monastery Velehrad (35km) – A cistercian monastery in the Chřiby foothills, dating from the 13th century. Together with its Baroque basilica, it is an important spiritual venue in the Czech Republic.

Chateau Slavkov (35km) - The largest Baroque chateau in Moravia, known especially for the Battle of the Three Emperors in 1805.

Folklore

Slovácko Year – The largest folklore festival in the region, it takes place every fourth year in Kyjov. You will see thousands of performers, a parade of folk costumes, accompanied by folk music, songs, dances, and other events. The next event takes place in August 2021.

Fašaňk (masopust) - A three-day holiday, as well as a festive period between Christmas and Lent. The end of this period often culminates in a feast that includes a procession of masks and costumes, accompanied by dancing, singing and music. It takes place in February.

Hody (the feasts) – A traditional Moravian folklore festival. It features live music events, folk dancing, and a parade in traditional folk costumes. Each village has a different date for the festival, usually on the day of the patron saint of the local church. In Bukovany this is Jan Pavel II. (October), in Kyjov it is Martin (November).

Wine and spirit tasting - With hundreds of extensive lush green vineyards, South Moravia is known for its fruit heritage. In Bukovany, there is the traditional slivovice (plum brandy) tasting at the end of January and wine tasting on Easter Sunday.

In Bukovany itself, you can walk to the hotel Bukovanský mlýn. There is a nice restaurant.
